Terry, according to Ayn Rand there is no such person that can claim that they are Agnostic. I thought that I finally could rest my mind with claiming to be an Agnostic. Ayn has confinced me that I'm not.
She says that we are either on one side or the other and cannot be in the middle. To say we don't know does not make us Agnostic, because that in itself makes the claim that we know.
I puschased the book: The Ayn Rand Lexicon; Objectivism from A to Z. Edited by Harry Binswanger. It's a compilation of over 400 topics, her statements on Philosophy, Economics, Psychology and History.
From there I will go to the individual books.

When we come to the conclusion that the Bible is a historical document written by men and that many errors from copyist's are in it, we then need to move on to another subject that needs some conclusion also. That subject would be God.
There is no way to prove the existence of God, we have belief systems, many based on the Bible which we have concluded is not from God.
Therefore, without ones very personal experience concerning contact with God, what are we left with?
As the beatles sang " Let it Be." There will be an answer, let it be.
I think that I can stop researching, but, continue to read on these subjects and then just let it be.
Really, who knows and has the truth on these matters .What each one believes and does not believe, lies with that one.

about where we go when we die, and no one i've found to date has really set forth a satisying answer to this question; so i thought i might just employ some of the knowledge i've gained from my own thirty year study of the bible.. where actually would be the most sensible place to begin when dealing with this subject?

Terry, am I understanding you correctly? Historical Jesus some 2,000 years ago did exist and that is a proven fact of history?
According to this topic he did exist. I read of opposing views that Historically Jesus did not exist.
Whether he existed or not, I am sure that the Holy Bible is not Holy at all and is a documental history written by men with their own agenda.

Now I'm really confused and here is why. According to opposing historians and scholars, Jesus never existed, Jesus did exist. Here the debates are establishing historically and theologically that Jesus did exist.
The debates become mute if in fact Jesus as is debated here never actually existed.
Historians vs. Theologians. Science vs. beliefs.
If we believe Jesus existed according to the Bible and history out side the Bible, then we have to choose who has the better augument in this debate.
Our belief system will hold sway here. It is one thing to prove that Jesus lived in a certain period of time and another to prove what is written about him. What he taught and his coming back to life after he died.

How many books do we need to read? When is it time to give it up? Each one will have to decide when we had enough of any given subject and have come full circle,i.e. Jesus, Holy Books, History of man, GOD, evolution, creation, etc.
I have come full circle on many subjects in my 65 years of life. I have decided that I will still read what others think about the many issues that confront us all. Issues that ask the big questions about this life and the here after.
